Phuuds

I like phuuds. You like phuuds. Let's eat some phuuds.

Featuring The Nightcap’s weekly family dinner:

Max’s and Paula’s delicious bacon-wrapped, blue cheese stuffed dates (not pictured here)
Greg’s and Lucy’s fabulous and very tasty pumpkin soup with a touch of cream, made from 2 sugar pie pumpkins!
Adam’s beautiful mixed greens salad with a medley of vegetables
Michael’s rich and velvety fettuccine alfredo with proscuitto

Brooklyn Brewery aka home to hipster nights out. There’s only one other place in the world that has this many people dressed in flannel in one place and that’s the Mission in San Francisco.

I’d get here early (opens at 6pm) to snag a picnic table. 1 coin gets you 1 beer (or 2 coins for the really alcoholic variety) and it costs $20 for 6 coins. You do the math.

Order some pizza to get delivered to you straight there or bring your own grub.

The decor was perfect. I felt like I was back in Paris. Plus this place is open 24/7 — so around 3am on a Friday night, it’s packed to the gills.

The food was nothing special. If anything, everything I tasted need more acid. More sherry in the french onion soup. More lemon juice or vinegar in the salad dressing.

I wish I had been hungrier for this restaurant. They have a fantastic menu with HUGE servings.

The tomato bisque was delightfully rich and perfect with bread and the spinach salad with pomegranate seeds, pears, and goat cheese was a great wintery fresh accompaniment.

A chocolate malt thick shake and fries is all I need as an afternoon snack. Yum. And their cheeseburgers aren’t half bad either. Head to this established old school burger shop to get back to the basics.

I love this time of year. Why? Because my friend’s grandmother slow cooks juicy pork sausages in red wine and other secret ingredients for us to serve to the homeless early on Christmas Eve morning.
They’re so yummy everyone comes back for thirds. Good thing she makes enough so we get a couple.

Small drink of water and a tall cup of coffee.

Just like everything in Manhattan, this place is expensive. I’d say you get the bang for your buck here, though. A yummy brew in a big mug is the perfect thing to take refuge in from the cold. Couple that with nice and friendly baristas and a library upstairs for browsing!
